We do not suppose for one minute that a typical Greek Sun client will be interested in having a holiday in one of the large, anonymous beach resort areas of Rhodes. However, if the thought of taking a short break in accommodation close to the wonderfully preserved, medieval city of Rhodes Town or combining this with a stay or stays on other islands appeals, read on.
We have purposely selected our accommodation to complement and maximise the time spent on Rhodes to visit the compact, walled medieval city, the nucleus of Rhodes Town. As a legacy of the crusading Knights of Saint John, this area was their main operational base from 1309 to 1522. Space does not allow us to catalogue and detail all the monuments worth visiting, but just the names evoke strong images. Medieval engravings on the exterior and interior marble staircase leading to rooms filled with exquisite mosaics and opulent furnishings can be studied at The Palace of the Grand Masters. Passing along the Street of the Knights, first the Archaeological Museum, then the Decorative Arts Collection and then the Byzantine Museum are all essential places to visit. We could go on. Needless to say, a decent guide book will be required to maximise ones stay.
Hire a car for a day or two and one can visit the beautiful, traditional, unspoilt villages in the interior of Rhodes Island. Steer well clear of the mass market, beach resort areas, head inland and the hilly, wooded interior will reveal such delights at Platania and Apollona as well as temples and monasteries.
Twin centre and Island Hopping: Rhodes can be combined with Athens, Chalki, Crete, Halkidiki, Karpathos, Kassos, Kastelorizo, Patmos, Leros & Symi.
Excursions & Activities: Rhodes offers many possibilities for excursions and activities, the most popular with our clients being the half day “City Tour” with guide which concentrates on the sites within the medieval city. Other land based excursions include Lindos and a full day visiting the traditional villages inland. Day trips by boat are extensive including a 5 hour cruise of Rhodes’ coastline including beautiful bays and beaches, Marmaris in Turkey and the islands of Symi, Kos, Kalymnos, Leros, Lipsi, Patmos, Kastelorizo and Tilos. All manner of water sports are available including scuba diving.
